Help PPMD raise $400,000 to invest in the future of Duchenne research

I am humbled to be working in Duchenne research, where patients and families have been the relentless driving force behind the progress we’ve made so far. We have seen the Power of Us realized, as we bring together top minds in the field with resources needed to develop novel strategies to help end Duchenne. The Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Centers have been a vanguard of research for Duchenne, impacting nearly every therapy we see in the Duchenne and Becker development pipeline.

Your investment to further PPMD’s support of the Wellstone centers will make a powerful imprint on the future of novel Duchenne therapeutics.

With your gift toward our goal of $400,000 in supplemental funding, we are furthering innovative research, enhancing  training, and creating future leaders in the fight to end Duchenne

The Power of Us is defined in the collaborative efforts of the Wellstone centers, where researchers across six different academic institutions work together to provide key findings that benefit the entire research community. With your generous support, our funding will bolster the research and training being carried out at three Wellstone center sites.

Your support will impact crucial work across several institutions:

  • The University of Florida, where the impact of microdystrophin proteins on the heart are being evaluated, which will allow for the expansion of pre-clinical models that more closely mimic disease progression in Duchenne. Enhancing our pre-clinical models is critically important to ensuring we can drive translation of therapies from the bench to the bedside.
  • Northwestern University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where we will help support additional research staff to further groundbreaking work to explain  the impact of intermittent steroid dosing on muscle inflammation, as well as testing a novel compound to modify muscle metabolism.
  • Northwestern University will also train predoctoral or clinical fellows that represent the future of Duchenne research.

We are lucky to be the recipients of the rich training and development of our colleagues at the Wellstone centers. I am so grateful to those who came before me to build the foundation for today’s network of researchers, and to those family advocates, whose tireless efforts made the creation of the Wellstone centers possible.

Give your gift to create innovation today. The power of this collaboration is possible because of your generous support.

Thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do. The Power of Us is stronger than any one of us alone.

Warmly,

Eric Camino, PhD
VP, Research and Clinical Innovation

P.S. Your gift toward supplemental funding for the Wellstone centers enables us to further the future of Duchenne research.
