Leading into PPMD’s 30th Annual Conference, PPMD is excited to host a professional meeting focusing on Becker muscular dystrophy care. Over the course of two days, attendees from across subspecialties, academic medical centers, and industry partners will explore a number of key issues specific to the care of individuals with Becker, including:

• What we know about Becker from The Duchenne Registry
• French and Italian Becker care guidelines 
• Cardiac and pulmonary treatment approaches
• Navigating care in the adult healthcare system
• Distinguishing  between Becker and Duchenne
• Steroid use in Becker
• Evaluating and treating pain of individuals with Becker
• Monitoring of individuals with Becker with minimal or no symptoms 

 

“We are thrilled to be assembling this meeting of experts in Duchenne and Becker clinical care to discuss and identify optimal care for individuals with Becker,” said Jodi Wolff, PhD, PPMD’s Chief Program Officer. “PPMD understands the importance of standards of care and we hope that through routine monitoring and a consistent approach that this will result in access to high quality care and improved quality of life for people with Becker.” 

We look forward to learning from key opinion leaders, including individuals with Becker and caregivers of individuals living with Becker, to inform key issues surrounding the current knowledge and gaps of Becker clinical care. Coming out of this meeting—and our Annual Conference, which includes sessions highlighting Becker clinical care and research in progress—we look forward to driving consensus to inform the creation of a set of clinical care guidelines for the care and treatment of individuals living with Becker with a goal of finding and facilitating access to excellent care for all.
