Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations Package Signed Into Law, Including Critical Funding for Duchenne and Becker

At the beginning of March, PPMD’s Advocacy Conference brought together more than 120 advocates from 26 different states in Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of the Duchenne and Becker community. This past weekend, the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations package was signed into law, funding the U.S. federal government through September 31, 2024.

Notable provisions of the legislation include:

  • $8 million in Duchenne/Becker funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)a $500,000 increase from FY23!
  • $10 million in Duchenne research funding for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) at the Department of Defense (DOD).
  • Report language that was requested at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This is fantastic news and would not have been possible without our dedicated advocates—thank you

On the heels of our FY24 appropriations success, we need to keep up the momentum on our FY25 requests that our advocates went to Capitol Hill with earlier this month.

For FY25, we are asking for $10 million for the CDC, $15 million for the DOD CDMRP, as well as report language at the NIH and FDA. You can make your voice and request heard here.

We will continue to keep you updated on FY25 appropriations progress. Thank you for all of your continued hard work in the fight for every future!
