Duchenne Action Month: Ways to get involved with PPMD

We know that no one person, company, or organization will end Duchenne. That’s why we are grateful to all of our collaborators – individuals, organizations, and industry partners – who, by joining forces with PPMD, help expand the Duchenne community and make us all stronger.

This Duchenne Action Month, we’re highlighting ways you can get involved with PPMD to join the fight to end Duchenne.

Advocate:

One of PPMD’s priorities is educating our nation’s leaders to get the federal support needed to make real progress in research and care. We provide advocates with the tools and information they need to advance legislation and regulatory efforts that will impact their lives and ensure Duchenne is a priority across all government agencies. Our advocacy efforts are focused on advancing the research that will lead to treatments and, ultimately, an end to Duchenne.

Fundraise:
Create your own fundraising campaign, participate in an existing event, or donate to support a fundraiser.

  • Celebrate your birthday or make any life milestone more meaningful by asking for donations to help fund the fight to end Duchenne. Create a Celebrate Your Way page to raise funds in recognition of a special moment in your life. Whether you are celebrating a birthday, graduation, wedding, or another special event you can have friends and family donate to PPMD in honor of that momentous occasion.
  • From bake sales to game nights, to full scale golf tournaments and live auctions, the PPMD team will help make your fundraising event both impactful and fun. PPMD will help guide you, and give you all the tools that you will need for a successful DIY Fundraising event!

Race:

Participate in a Race to End Duchenne near you to join hundreds of individuals and families around the country raising money for Duchenne. You can also show your commitment by supporting or sponsoring a participant. Host a Race to End Duchenne .1K—a run that most anyone can do, in any space. It’s a great opportunity to educate a new community about Duchenne (and raise funds for PPMD’s essential work along the way).

Gear up for Game Day:

For over a decade, PPMD and college football teams have partnered to raise money and awareness through Coach to Cure MD. This September tradition has multiple ways you and your family can participate on game day — and have a great time doing it.

Shop for a Cure:

Show your support for the fight to end Duchenne by repping PPMD merchandise like apparel, accessories, and gifts. A portion of the proceeds goes toward supporting our mission.

Attend events and conferences:

PPMD events provide opportunities to connect with others in the Duchenne and Becker community, learn from experts, and stay informed about the latest research and treatments. Check out our events calendar to learn about our Annual Conference, Advocacy Conference, and more.

Connect with the community:

Follow PPMD on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay in the loop about our activities, initiatives, and news related to Duchenne and Becker.

Led by volunteer parents and grandparents, PPMD’s Connect groups serve as regional points of contact for families and individuals affected by Duchenne and Becker. These groups connect families with local resources, help them better navigate the diagnosis of Duchenne or Becker, and provide ways to connect with other families both in-person and online.

PPMD’s Adult Advisory Committee (PAAC) amplifies the teen and adult voices of Duchenne, Becker, and carriers as an extension of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD). The PAAC works together to elevate the lives of individuals living with Duchenne and Becker through mentorship, outreach, and education.

PPMD also hosts virtual socials throughout the year for tweens, siblings, dads, grandparents, and newly diagnosed families. Make connections, share and discuss information and resources, and have some fun!
