
In May 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 1098/SB 524 into law, which requires the state to launch Duchenne newborn screening once implementation funding is secured. Our advocacy efforts are currently focused on securing the necessary funding to move the program forward.
This state is RUSP aligned: Florida has a law that requires the state newborn screening program to review and consider inclusion of all conditions on the federal Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). Duchenne is on the RUSP, and Florida’s law requires that the state’s newborn screening advisory council reviews Duchenne for addition to their panel by December 16, 2026. Because Duchenne was already added to the panel in 2025, the committee was able to bypass this review.
