2020 Make Every Day Count Award Winner: Gretchen Brentner Egner

Race to End Duchenne and Team Danny are pleased to announce the winner of the 2020 Make Every Day Count Award: Gretchen Brentner Egner!

The Make Every Day Count Award was started in 2019 to honor the legacy of Danny Garofalo, who made it his life’s mission to live every day to the fullest during his 16 short years of life. The award is given annually to a member of the Race to End Duchenne Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend team.

Gretchen ran on PPMD’s first-ever endurance team at the Disney World Marathon in 2005, and since then has run a race almost every year to help raise funds and awareness in honor of her son Nick, and all those living with Duchenne. The Garofalo family and Team Danny met Gretchen early in their Duchenne journey, and they were instantly drawn to her kind spirit, her ability to tackle obstacles with grace and joy, and her commitment to her family. They chose Gretchen to receive this award because she embodies Danny’s legacy to make every day count, and she inspires this community to do the same. Gretchen will be presented with the award at our Team Celebration dinner during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in January.

Congratulations Gretchen! The Duchenne community is stronger because you’re in it.
