Join us for the 5th annual Brookhaven Family Run for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy on Saturday, October 27, 2012! Registration starts at 8 a.m. with races beginning at 9 a.m. The family-friendly event includes a 5K run/walk, 1-mile kids run, as well as a 40 and 100-yard kids' dashes.
Don’t
miss out on the pre-race breakfast, great raffle prizes, food from the Meat
House, TCBY and a Kid Zone featuring crafts, inflatables, face painting and more. Sir
Purr and Chubby Checker will be there to cheer everyone on and might even show
down in a race of their own! The Brookhaven Fall Festival will immediately follow lasting from 11 to 2 p.m.

for our first ever Family Fun Night/Race
Packet Pickup on Friday, October 26th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in
the field beside the Brookhaven Clubhouse. T-shirts, race numbers and chip timers will be
ready so you can skip the lines Saturday morning. Hungry Howie’s pizza,
TCBY and popcorn will be available for purchase with a percentage of sales
going back to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD). Bring your lawn chairs or
blanket and enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars, sponsored by Keller
Williams Realtor Rick Hurd. Kids are encouraged to come in costume!

Raise additional funds for the cause
Ask your friends to sponsor you or your team in the run! Jake and thousands like him need your help! Registering online will allow you to create a personal or team fundraising page, which you can easily e-mail to friends asking them to sponsor you in the run. If you cannot attend the run, sign up as a “spirit runner” and raise funds via the web site, or simply make a donation online. Please feel free to download a pledge sheet.
All proceeds will benefit Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) and go toward researching a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy.

The Brookhaven Family Fun Run is being held in honor of eight-year-old Brookhaven resident Jake Pritchard, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Duchenne is the most common genetic muscle disease in childhood, affecting approximately 1 in every 3,500 live male births (about 20,000 new cases each year). Because the Duchenne gene is found on the X-chromosome, it primarily affects boys; however, it occurs across all races and cultures.
Duchenne can be passed from parent to child, but approximately 35% of cases occur because of a random spontaneous mutation. In other words, it can affect anyone. Although there are medical treatments that may help slow its progression, there is currently no cure for Duchenne.
