This state is RUSP aligned: Texas has a law that requires the state newborn screening program to include all conditions on the federal Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). Duchenne is on the RUSP, and Texas’ law requires that all newborns are screened for Duchenne by December 16, 2027.
In May 2025, Governor Greg Abbott signed SB 1044 into law, which requires the state to launch Duchenne newborn screening once implementation funding is secured. Our advocacy efforts are currently focused on securing the necessary funding to move the program forward.
