In November 2025, South Dakota’s newborn screening advisory committee voted to recommend Duchenne to the state’s newborn screening panel. Our advocacy efforts are currently focused on supporting the state newborn screening team in the next steps, which includes validating (checking the accuracy of) the CK-MM test in the laboratory that coordinates all of South Dakota’s newborn screening. After validation, the recommendation to add Duchenne to the panel will go to the state legislature for approval.
