Other Ways to Help
If you are looking for other interesting and exciting ways to help Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy raise critical dollars to fund important research, check out more ideas below. There are so many ways you can get involved in our fight to end Duchenne. And who knows, maybe one of these suggestions will spark an idea of your own.
- Have Your Donation Doubled—Set up a matching gift with your employer
Setting up a matching gift with your employer is an easy and effective way to double your impact. If you make a donation to PPMD, use our Matching Gift Employer Search to find out if your employer will match it. We are more than happy to help process the paperwork.
If you have questions about matching gifts, please contact Laurie Cicalo at Laurie@parentprojectmd.org or 800-714-5437.
- Write a Grant
In the realm of fundraising, many think that securing funds is as easy as writing a grant. The truth is, with so many nonprofits competing in the same space for funds, being awarded foundation grants is actually part skill, part compelling program, and (mostly) part connections. If you have connections with any foundations where you feel PPMD’s programs may fit, or if you are an experienced grant writer, please let us know. Your help and expertise could make a world of difference.
Please contact Kimberly Galberaith at Kimberly@parentprojectmd.org or 800-714-5437.
- Donate Stocks and Securities
Do you have stocks, bonds, or funds that you would like to donate to a worthy cause? Donating securities is a fundraising option that is often overlooked, and it's a great way to show your support for PPMD.
We gladly accept stocks and securities donations from individuals and corporations. Please contact Will Nolan at Will@parentprojectmd.org or 800-714-5437 for more information on PPMD’s stocks and securities procedures.
- Donate Goods and Services
Are you a vendor specializing in printed t-shirts, tote bags, or other promotional goods? Do you have other items that PPMD families hosting events could use for raffles or silent auctions?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, please give us a call. We need people like you to help us create and execute exciting ways for people to show their support for our organization. Find out how great it feels to donate your overstock items to a worthy cause like PPMD.
To help us in our fight to end Duchenne, please contact Ryan Fischer at Ryan@parentprojectmd.org or 800-714-5437 today.
- Recycle Your Cell Phone
Through the GRC Wireless Recycling family of programs, over 2,000 participants in the U.S. and Canada are actively collecting cell phones to be recycled on a monthly basis in the name of fundraising. Their efforts have earned over $3,000,000 since 2001.
To get involved, go to GRCrecycling.com. Search for Recycling Alliance and click “Begin Here” to register. You’ll receive your kit in 3-5 weeks, at which point you can begin to collect used cell phones from your community.
The donated cell phones are shipped to GRC Wireless Recycling, which pays the freight costs for shipments of all sizes. They will recycle your cell phones, paying between 50 cents and $30 per phone (depending on make and model). Newer models may earn significantly more than $30. GRC pays for all used cellular phones, regardless of age or condition (minimum of $.50).
GRC Wireless Recycling issues a check within 2 weeks. They offer complete accountability, including a detailed and itemized list of all the phones they have processed.
- Donate a Vehicle through Cars for Causes
Cars 4 Causes is a wonderful organization that handles all vehicle donations for charities. Cars 4 Causes has partnered with PPMD to raise money for Duchenne. If you or anyone you know is interested in donating a vehicle, please visit our Cars 4 Causes donation page!
- Generate Press
Effective use of free media is a great way to let the world know about Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy, and the importance of raising funds for research to find a cure. We’ve gathered tips and suggestions for ways to generate media interest, and how to convey important messages about Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) and Duchenne.
To make it easier for you to help, we offer downloadable press releases, key messages, media tips, and a “letter to the editor” about Duchenne, all of which you can localize with your personal information. To view these documents, download our Participation Matters Guide (PDF).
Discussing Duchenne and all the issues surrounding it can be difficult for you and your family. Our materials can help. Please edit these press templates as you see fit, and use these tools to the extent with which you are comfortable. Sending out press items is an important part of raising awareness about Duchenne in our communities. For more information, please contact Will Nolan at Will@parentprojectmd.org or 800-714-5437.

- Sell on eBay— Donate Through MissionFish
It's easy to donate 10-100% to a nonprofit when you sell on eBay. All you need to get started is an eBay seller account.
When you sign into your eBay account, follow the instructions for selling, as usual. On the “Pictures & Details” area, choose “Donate a percentage of sale” to launch the eBay Giving Works feature.
Select a nonprofit. You’ll find Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) in the MissionFish directory. If you're a new eBay Giving Works user, you'll have to complete a one-time registration form with MissionFish. Next, choose how much of your final sale price (10%-100%) you would like to donate. Finally, review your listing details and submit as usual.
When your item goes live on eBay, MissionFish will alert PPMD that you will be making a donation when your item sells. Once you find a buyer, complete your transaction with them as usual. Later, MissionFish will collect your donation, distribute it to your chosen nonprofit, and send you a tax receipt for your contribution.
Thank you so much for your help. Your commitment makes a real difference in the lives of the young men affected by Duchenne. |
