PPMD is closely monitoring the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee markup of the Committee’s budget reconciliation text, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET. Updated legislative language released yesterday includes proposals that would modify certain Medicaid policies, including those related to work requirements and provider taxes.
According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, if passed, the legislation is projected to reduce federal spending by approximately $715 billion. However, it may also lead to changes in Medicaid eligibility that could affect as many as 8.6 million Americans, including those living with rare and serious medical conditions.
PPMD remains committed to ensuring continued access to Medicaid for individuals living with Duchenne, Becker, and other complex medical conditions. Medicaid provides critical services that support health, independence, and quality of life for many in our community. We believe that any changes to Medicaid should preserve coverage for those with significant medical needs and avoid unintended consequences for families who rely on these services.
As Congress considers this legislation, we respectfully urge policymakers to recognize the importance of protecting access to care for vulnerable populations. Now is the time to share your story with lawmakers, let them know how Medicaid supports your family and why continued access matters. Grassroots advocacy plays a critical role in protecting programs that serve individuals with rare and serious health conditions. Take action now.
PPMD will continue working alongside partners and advocates to ensure the needs of the Duchenne and Becker community are heard and considered in the policymaking process.
