Wear your worst shirt. Share a selfie.

Make a Donation. Spread awareness for Duchenne.

Bad Shirt Friday is a global awareness campaign to help shine a light on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. On Friday, September 5th, we invite you to wear your loudest, most outrageous shirts and share a selfie on social media using the hashtag #BadShirtFriday.

Each ugly shirt worn is a bold, visible way to spark curiosity and start conversations about Duchenne—its challenges, the urgent need for therapies, and the strength of the families and individuals it affects. And have some fun!

This year, as we approach World Duchenne Awareness Day on September 7th and its theme, Family: The Heart of Care, Bad Shirt Friday is a chance to show that families are not only at the center of care, but also at the center of this effort to raise awareness for Duchenne. Whether you’re a parent, sibling, friend, or ally—your voice (and your shirt!) can help amplify the message.

How to Participate

  1. Wear your worst shirt on Friday, September 5th.
  2. Take a selfie (solo, with friends and family, at work, at school—wherever!).
  3. Post your photo to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter/X with a caption (see sample captions below) and the hashtag #BadShirtFriday.
  4. Make a donation.
  5. Tag 3 friends and challenge them to share their bad shirts.
  6. Tag PPMD and any other Duchenne organizations.

Workplace Challenge

  1. Set up a fundraising page for your company – we’ve created this flyer to share within your company.
  2. Encourage employees/co-workers to wear their loudest, most outrageous shirts in exchange for a donation to support PPMD on Friday, September 5th.
  3. Have everyone share a selfie on social media using the hashtag #BadShirtFriday, along with the link to your company donation page to encourage others to support PPMD’s mission.

Thanks to the generosity of the Joti Family, all donations will be matched up to $50,000! That means every donation goes twice as far!
