New Physical Therapy Stretching Video Series from PPMD

Included in the new series are recommendations for stretching routines and safe, favorable mobility device positions for both ambulatory and non-ambulatory people living with Duchenne.

PPMD Releases New Physical Therapy Stretching Video Series

Last week PPMD shared a blog about the newly published article in Muscle & Nerve summarizing the Contractures in Duchenne and Other Neuromuscular Conditions  conference hosted by PPMD. In addition to the published article, PPMD worked with a team of expert Physical Therapists (PTs), most from PPMD’s Certified Duchenne Care Centers (CDCCs), to develop an easy-to-follow Range of Motion handout (download) for parents and physical therapists.

Along with these new recommendations, an up-to-date series of Physical Therapy videos have now been developed.  These new videos demonstrate current Physical Therapy guidelines. PPMD’s Kathi Kinnett — in partnership with Claudia Senesac, PT, PhD, PCS (University of Florida) and Chris and Ethan Jones (Mitchell’s Journey) — embarked on a weekend of filming and worked tirelessly over the past year to create and perfect this series.

Not everything in the Range of Motion handout (download) or Physical Therapy videos will apply to every person living with Duchenne. Individualized plans are best carried out by an experienced physical therapist who is familiar with your loved one. Consider what will work with your daily schedule and prioritize based on your child’s needs and your physical therapist’s recommendations.
