It has been almost 1 year since Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy entered our lives. No parent could ever be prepared to hear this devastating news. Andrew is truly an inspiration.
Duchenne is the most common lethal genetic disorder diagnosed during early childhood, affecting approximately 1 out of every 3,500 boys and 20,000 babies born each year. Duchenne causes loss of muscle function and independence. Most young men with Duchenne only live into their late teens or early twenties. This disease is 100% fatal with no known cure.
Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy(PPMD) is the largest nonprofit organization in the United States focused entirely on Duchenne. They strive to improve the treatment, quality of life and long-term outlook for boys and young men suffering from DMD.
That's why my husband, Mitch and I are embarking on this adventure and will be joining the PPMD Run For Our Sons team and run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. We are participating in this event BECAUSE WE CAN and because Andrew and the Duchenne community need our help......
Together we will END Duchenne!
