Genetic TestingGenetic (DNA) testing is the process of examining a person's DNA. In genetic testing for Duchenne, DNA from the dystrophin gene is examined to see if any mutations can be identified. DNA is taken from cells in a sample of blood or, occasionally, from other body fluids (usually saliva) or tissues (such as muscle). For more information about genetic testing, especially as it relates to muscular dystrophy, please visit DuchenneConnect, an online medical database created to connect patients and their families to researchers for clinical trials; genetic testers and counselors; and the pharmaceutical industry. DuchenneConnect can also help users to locate genetics professionals. |
