Whether you are a huge football fan, an armchair quarterback, or just someone looking to support the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, getting involved and getting in the game is an easy and great way to support Duchenne research programs.
There are a variety of easy, exciting events you can host at your home, local bar, or by tailgating as you cheer on your favorite team. Check out our list of ideas below and register your own event!
NOTE: The last day to register your event is September 21.

Hosting a tailgate party is a fun and easy way to support Coach To Cure MD on game day. From a traditional cook-out tailgate party at the game to a house party with friends and family, or even a gathering at a favorite local restaurant or bar, a tailgate party is a great option. Coach To Cure MD can provide you with some great materials to make your party all the more festive and informative.
Here are a few suggestions on how to put together these events. Of course these are just suggestions, so feel free to expand upon these ideas and really make it your own.
Why not show your team spirit and host a tailgate party at the stadium the day of the big game? If you are a parent or friend of a boy with Duchenne, adding a poster with photos of the boy or boys you are representing is a great way to add a personal touch to the table. Activities as simple as walking through the crowds passing out literature and encouraging people to text a $5 donation, will help spread the word. Be creative and do what you can to draw attention to your group so you can tell them about Coach To Cure MD.
* Please note: Some universities have policies about nonprofit organizations soliciting donations in their parking lots. Please make sure you get the proper approval from your school.
So maybe it is an away game for you on the Coach To Cure MD weekend. Or perhaps sitting in a hot parking lot is not your idea of fun. Why not throw a Watch Party?
This traditional “house party” fundraiser is a great way to have a fun, personal evening that supports the cause. Again Coach To Cure MD will provide you with resource materials and some items for the party. You can also watch a short Coach to Cure MD video that will help to tell the story of Duchenne and the Coach To Cure MD program.
There is no right or wrong way to throw a party!
Don’t want to head to the stadium? Don’t feel like having everyone over? The think about outsourcing and going to a location for a party. A local restaurant, bar, school, church, etc. can make a great location for everyone to gather and have fun during the game - and we provide the tools you need to talk to them in our Event Checklist Packet (DOC).
Many times these places will offer you a percentage of the sales during a set time, or other donations towards your event. Get creative with the establishment owner and decide what works best for both of you. Families who outsourced parties at that favorite local spot had the greatest success in terms of attendance and fundraising last year.
Did you know that many of your favorite restaurant chains have "give back" nights where a portion of each meal purchased during a set day and time is donated to a charity? Click here for a list of participating restaurants and more information on how to take advantage of this great opportunity to fundraise while you dine!
Make sure to download our Event Checklist Packet (DOC) for everything you need to approach your favorite local restaurant about hosting a Coach To Cure event.
At any of these Tailgate parties being creative is the key! Offering some planned activities like a cornhole contest, or a betting pool, or even a simple challenge or contest every time your team scores, is a great way to add some fun.
